Reported in today’s Chronicle of Higher Education is the announcement of a new on-line “wiki” (i.e. collaboratively written) medical encyclopedia. Unlike Wikipedia, which allows anyone (and I mean ANYONE) to write an article or revise an existing article, Medpedia will require that its contributors “must have an M.D. or Ph.D. in a biomedical field” in order to write or edit articles. Although it may not qualify as “peer reviewed” publishing for the purposes of promotion and tenure, it might be an opportunity for nursing leaders to ensure that nursing science is represented. Visit its Web site for more information: http://www.medpedia.com . The article from the Chronicle, “Medical Wiki Backed by Prominent Colleges Will Go Live by Year’s End,” is available on line to subscribers.
