21.6 Fatigue ~~ the under treated symptom – Issue Editor -Brenda Scruggs. Patients who deal with fatigue will tell you it is one of the most debilitating symptoms they experience. Too often they are told, “there is nothing that can be done about it” or “it is normal to feel fatigued with your diagnosis”. The truth is, fatigue is never ‘normal’ and there are many interventions that can and should be offered to the patient. Fatigue as a symptom, or as a secondary diagnosis, affects most of our patients with chronic illnesses and fatigue management can contribute to an improved quality of life. This issue seeks manuscripts that will discuss: ways to increase thorough assessment of fatigue; a specific treatment option that can be offered to patients, (exercise, counseling, journaling, relaxation, hydration, nutrition, etc); discussion of current or proposed research. Literature reviews, editorials, news stories, perspectives, and other types of manuscripts are requested.
