Inside Higher Ed: Editing Matters

Writing in today’s Inside Higher Ed, Carmen Werder and Karen Hoelscher discuss why editing matters. Citing an independent study, they assert that there are “potentially negative effects of errors on academic readers” so “that errors — to varying degrees — do undermine your authority as a writer, and that’s reason to pay attention.”

Werder and Hoelscher distinguish between errors and mistakes, and offer specific proofreading and editing tips (proofreading and editing not being the same thing).
